How to detect symptoms in animals in Zoochosis
Aside from feeding the animals in each enclosure in Zoochosis, your other general objective is taking samples and readings to diagnose any diseases present in the animals. Thanks to the tools provided on your Gadget Trolley, there are a variety of methods you can use to determine which animals in an enclosure need treatment.
Before you leave the train, make sure to produce the food you need for the animals at their respective enclosure, as you'll need it for feces samples. Load it onto your Gadget Trolley once done, then wheel it to the enclosure's entrance. Once there, follow these steps to get everything you need for a diagnosis:
Drop food into the Feeding Area trough
Each enclosure has its own Feeding Area with a trough for you to dump the food into. The animals will automatically run over to eat their fill soon after.
Gather Feces afterward with the MFE
After eating, each animal in the enclosure will produce a pile of Feces that you'll need to pick up with the MFE Vacuum from your Gadget Trolley. Be sure to retrieve every pile in the enclosure to complete the task.
Take temperature readings with the TIS
Point the tripod toward the animal and make sure it stays in view of the machine long enough for the reading to finish loading.
Take sound readings with the ASSA
Approach the animal you need to scan from behind so it isn't spooked, and stay close until the reading beeps and finishes.
Take blood samples with Blood Syringe
A sample can be taken from an animal once their interaction square goes from red to green. You can keep track of which animals you've drawn blood from by checking the samples you have in your inventory via the PDA.
Look for wounds on animals with UV flashlight
Turn on the UV flashlight and shine it at each of the animals to check for wound marks. Animals with a wound visible under the UV light are more likely to be infected with a parasite and may be masking or mimicking false symptoms to throw you off.
As you gather each type of sample and reading, you can keep track of which animals have been checked by the symbols under their names. If a symbol has a question mark over it, that means you still need to take it back to the train for diagnosis.
Once you've done everything required for a full diagnosis, your PDA will send "task complete" pings and you can head back to the train to figure out the disease you're dealing with.
How to cure all diseases in Zoochosis
Once you've returned to the train, send the feces samples into the Biomaterial Receiver and then place your blood sample vials into the Blood Collector at the Veterinary Station. Now, go interact with the computer at the same station to first look at the Diagnosis Screen.
On the left, look at the list of animals in the enclosure and you should see which of them has been flagged for symptoms, according to the appropriate symbols (i.e. - temperature, sound, feces, and blood) that have turned red.
Next, use the symptom filter above the Diseases menu by selecting the symptoms the animals are showing. That will narrow down the possible diseases to a small list, and you want to select the one with the exact same symptoms. Once you have, you then need to craft a medicinal cure for the affected animals.
Do so by going to the 'Crafting' tab on the left, where you can go through a list of possible cures for all the known diseases. To know which is the correct one, you need to carefully read the Description on the far right for what the medicine cures. Some are obvious while others need a bit more comprehensive deduction.
Once you've found the correct one, you need to make sure you have enough of the required substances for the formula. These can be found in numerous colored vials (seen above) scattered throughout each area of the game. When you're ready, hit 'Create' at the bottom of the screen to make your dose of medicine. If more than one animal is diseased, you'll need to make an extra dose for them as well.
Retrieve the darts loaded with your crafted medicine from the nearby dispenser, and then load them into the Dart Gun found on your Gadget Trolley. Head back into the enclosure and use one dart on each of the animals in order to cure them.
Once all animals are healthy, you'll get a bright yellow notification (seen above) congratulating you for successfully curing them all. At that point, you can move on to the next enclosure.
How to cure mutated animals in Zoochosis
If you're dealing with a mutated animal in the enclosure, you'll need to craft a special medicine specifically for them in order to cure them and return them to normal. There are two methods to cure a mutated animal in Zoochosis, and which one you pick depends on certain choices you make during the game (and the type of ending you want to get).
Use Meat to calm and then cure the animal
The first method to cure a mutated animal in Zoochosis is by first making the proper food recipe for that mutated species, which always requires Meat.
Be aware, that this means you will need to use either the Meat Block meant for Lily at the start of the game, or sacrifice Sarah or one of the other human victims to the grinder in order to make more. So this method will affect your ending in that regard.
Once you have the meat recipe prepared and put in the Bucket, also grab your Blood Syringe and then head immediately to the enclosure and dump the food into the Feeding Area trough. The mutated animal will go over and consume the meat, and this will temporarily return it to its normal form.
During this time, go and collect one new blood sample from any of the animals (doesn't have to be the mutated one), as it's required for any of the mutation disease cures. Quickly go back to the train with your sample and to the computer to craft your required medicine.
Once you've determined the correct one, hit the 'Create x3' button at the bottom of the screen and it will automatically make three doses of the medicine for you, as you will need to shoot the animal three times to fully cure it.
Collect blood without using Meat
If you prefer not to use Meat (or moreso, grinding up human victims) during your playthrough, then you will need to focus on gathering an extra blood sample from the enclosure as quickly as possible while the mutated animal is rampaging. Unfortunately, you can't gather extra samples before the mutation happens, and Tranquilizers won't work on mutated animals.
So bum rush your way into the enclosure with your Blood Syringe and gather a sample from any of the animals as soon as possible and get back to the train to make your necessary cure. Since you don't have a way to calm the mutated beast during this time, it's more likely to kill one of the other ones in its enclosure before you can get back in time.
Either way, craft the medicine you need, get back to the enclosure and shoot it three times to stop the mutation and get the animal to vomit up the parasite for storage.
