Destiny: Rising Is A Mobile Title That Could Be Bungie’s Phantom Menace
After plenty of leaks earlier this year, NetEase and Bungie have finally announced Destiny: Rising, a new shared-world shooter coming to mobile platforms.
The game will take place decades before the events of Destiny 1 and will center on new and returning characters after The Collapse, an event only shown in the series’ deeper lore drops so far, but will take place on a fresh timeline, NetEase has explained.
Destiny: Rising brings Bungie’s shooter to mobile
For non-Destiny fans, consider this as what the prequel trilogy is to the original Star Wars trilogy and you’ll be somewhere close, with players working alongside the Iron Lords of Iron Banner fame.
“For over a decade, we have built this universe to contain many unique and wonderful stories, and we are excited to see mobile gamers be able to experience this new take on the Destiny universe from the creative team at NetEase,” said Terry Redfield, Creative Lead at Bungie via a press release.
“With Destiny: Rising, NetEase Games is honored to partner with Bungie to deliver a Destiny-caliber experience to mobile devices,” said Ethan Wang, Senior Vice President at NetEase added.
“Destiny is an incredible franchise with a passionate and dedicated global fanbase. As huge fans ourselves, we are humbled and thrilled for the opportunity to bring gamers an action-packed RPG shooter set within the Destiny Universe.”
Destiny: Rising will offer first and third-person combat, and if you’re less enthused about using your digits to poke away at your character, controller support is included, too.
Speaking of characters, NetEase is promising multiple playable ones, which is certainly different from Destiny and its sequel which have players creating their own Guardians.
Destiny: Rising also includes PvE and PvP, with the former including Strikes which have six players (double the main game’s three-player Strikes), and new locations including the Red Sea Rift, Jiangshi, and Haven.
From the sounds of things, players will see the formation of the series’ iconic Last City, and maybe even the formation of the Vanguard, which for Destiny nerds like me is some pretty exciting stuff – even if it is being cast adrift on a fresh timeline has me a tad concerned about how deep it’ll delve into Bungie’s universe.
Players can pre-register now via the game’s official site, with a closed alpha set for November.
