What happens on these stages in the anime?

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is a location prominent within the series as Goku, his son Gohan, and other Z-fighters train to overcome incoming threats like Cell and Buu. One year inside the chamber equals one day outside, so that leaves a lot of time for our heroes to train, spar with each other, and become stronger.

The Cell Games Arena is where Gohan and Cell have their fateful fight in Dragon Ball Z. It’s where the teenager performs the Father-Son Kamehameha to defeat Cell and saves the world.

Planet Namek is where the events of the Frieza saga takes place, where Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin struggle to survive as they search for the Dragon Balls. Goku eventually helps them and turns into a Super Saiyan against the mighty Frieza.

Lastly, the Land of the Kais is where Goku performs a Spirit Bomb to rid us of the frightening Kid Buu, and the Rocky Lands is likely based on the initial battles between Goku and Vegeta in the Saiyan arc.
