In fact, the key used to change weapons has been changed causing players to be unable to do so in the heat of battle. Understanding Default Weapon Changes

By default, the key to change weapons in Factorio Space Age is the ‘C’ key. This key functionality is designed to automatically cycle to the next equipped weapon. Players can see their equipped weapons at the bottom left corner of the screen on their tool belt. For example, if you currently have the weapon in Slot 1, on the far left equipped, hitting ‘C’ will toggle to the weapon in Slot 2. This feature allows players to equip multiple different weapons or even the same weapons with different types of ammunition to effectively deal with specific enemies.

Once you’ve got the correct weapon equipped, you then hit ‘Spacebar’ by default to shoot the enemy you are pointing at. If you hold Shift and hit Spacebar, you will instead shoot at whatever you are pointing at, regardless if it is an enemy or not. While in Factorio Space Age, hit the Escape key to open the menu.

Click on Controls.
Scroll down to find the command titled ‘Next Weapon’ in the Basic Interaction menu.
Click the box to the right of ‘Next Weapon’ and hit the key on your keyboard or mouse that you want to use.
Click the green ‘Confirm’ button at the bottom right to update your weapon change key!

It's advisable to choose a key that feels comfortable and accessible. Many players recommend using a side mouse button for quick access during intense battles with Biters, which can become overwhelming as you progress through the game.
